Dettori relives Enable heartbreak

Frankie Dettori has admitted that heshed a tear during the hours that followed Enables heartbreaking defeat at the Prix de lArc de Triomphe at ParisLongchamp weekend.
Waldgeist was a red-hot favorite to become the first horse to win three occasions to Europes premier competition, but mowed on john Gosdens brilliant mare – supplying trainer Andre Fabre using a eighth victory at the race.
Having had a week to digest what happened, Dettori spoke eloquently on the Opening Show of ITV Racing on Saturday afternoon – reflecting on and the aftermath.
Dettori said:It was astonishing – as soon I stepped out of the weighing room people were screaming and going berserk. It was just like being in the soccer, it wasnt horse racing any more.
The paddock was rammed and then I have about the filly and that I was trying to take all of it inside – it was a particular moment.
The parade seemed to move on and on and once I got near the winning post they were not shouting Enable any longer, they were shouting my name. I believe the French were supporting her, although I never anticipated such heat from not only the English people.
The race went exactly like I thought. I had a great spot and the pace was powerful. I was able to conserve ground and give my horse a breather and everything turned out fine until the Andre Fabre horse loathed it at the past 100 metres!
Dettori continued:The race couldnt have gone better. I wish Magical had took me into the race but after Sottsass came I needed to move.
Waldgeist quickened and I didnt, thats the gap. My filly stop and the one thing which made him go was that the floor – if the ground was great I would have got to the point.
She actually tried her heart out and we came near. I shed a tear in Sunday night, but she went down in glory, even in defeat.
Connections are expected to decide soon whether Enable will hurry on or be retired from racing.
Dettori is keeping his fingers crossed he gets another opportunity .
He explained:Of course I was deflated, but I had the next three races to ride in, so I needed to pick myself up and attempt to get it out of my mind.
It has been an remarkable experience for all those involved and I just trust Prince Khalid retains her in training and we could try again !
